自然災害致力于對自然災害各個方面的原始研究工作，包括災難性事件的預測、風險管理以及自然和技術災害前體的性質。盡管危險源和系統(tǒng)不同，如大氣、水文、海洋學、火山學、地震、新構造，但環(huán)境影響同樣具有災難性。這就保證了不同科學和操作學科之間的密切互動，旨在加強對危險的緩解。覆蓋范圍包括大氣、氣候學、海洋學、風暴潮、海嘯、洪水、雪、雪崩、滑坡、侵蝕、地震、火山、人為和技術等危險類別，以及風險評估。

Natural Hazards is devoted to original research work on all aspects of natural hazards, including the forecasting of catastrophic events, risk management, and the nature of precursors of natural and technological hazards.Although hazards can originate in different sources and systems, such as atmospheric, hydrologic, oceanographic, volcanologic, seismic, neotectonic, the environmental impacts are equally catastrophic. This warrants a close interaction between different scientific and operational disciplines, aimed at enhancing the mitigation of hazards.Coverage includes such categories of hazard as atmospheric, climatological, oceanographic, storm surges, tsunamis, floods, snow, avalanches, landslides, erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes, man-made and technological, as well as risk assessment.
